92 points: Robert Parker. Steinriegl is a Southwest-facing steep vineyard in the wine-growing village of Weissenkirchen. The terroir is characterized by its proximity to the forest, the cool terraces and the rich lime silicate soils. The wine features savory aromas and flavors, dense, minerally, spicy. Grapes grown in Steinriegl: Very steep (up to 78% inclination) top single vineyard located at high altitude and facing south-southwest. Highly flavor-intense wines with pronounced minerality. This vineyard has been referred-to as one of the best single vineyards of Styria for centuries. Soil: Red slate (paleozoic slate). Winemaking: Very late selective hand picked grapes, short maceration time, gently very slowly pressed. Slow natural fermentation in Stainless Steel tanks and in used big wooden casks at temperatures around 20°C. Batonage for several months.
