2012 is the Napa vintage everyone is talking about. Robert Parker called it a "no brainer" and lauded it for "classic, big, fruit-dominated Napa wines." All the grapes in this blend come from the Suscol Creek Vineyard - Block 5, which is an extremely rocky (basalt) hillside. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are sourced from one of the most southern locations within Napa Valley. It is a blend of 84% Cabernet and 16% Merlot. The good news for the 2012 Napa Valley vintage was that there were no frosts, a mild spring, and a tranquil fall. Aged for 16 months in mostly French barrels this wine was bottled on May 20th, 2014. Dense and rich, this Block 5 Cabernet Sauvignon from Suscol Creek packs layers of blackberry, braised figs, and dark currants, showing elements of sweet tobacco and cedar. Silky texture yet firm tannins awaken the lush mouth feel giving a polished, long elegant finish.
