Predominantly Auxerrois (as Malbec is known in its historic heartland of Cahors), plus Merlot and Tannat. These were vinified separately and then blended together and aged for 9 months in old oak. Lots of ripe, black fruit with the Merlot rounding out the tannins to give a softer, more approachable appeal. Lovely black spice, coal tones greet the nose and offer support to the slightly jammy, smoky cranberry fruit. Nicely balanced and bright with fine focus, if a touch lean across the mid-palate. Right up front there is a touch of wood that integrates well into the dark fruits which, in turn, are contrasted by a fine mineral note on the moderately long finish. 88pts.
