Founded in 1983 by Jose Castro Brey high up the Ulla valley in the Ribeira do Ulla subzone of Rais Baixas, three generations of the family work at this 12 hectare property. They own 12 hectares across two vineyards, one near the winery and a second close to the coast in the Val do Salnés subzone, which was the historic heart of Rias Baixas and where a more mineral style of Albariño comes. The Castro Valdez wine is from the high vineyards and is very ripe and expressive. Fresh with a full nose of melon and white pepper hints. Rich on the palate with peach, apricot and spice notes. Rich textured it develops notes of nectarine and yellow plum on the long, crisp finish.
